Hi
There,
Well here's a little about me. I grew up in country Victoria and loved the
outdoors. From as young as I can remember I was always outside, enjoying the
freedom, sunshine even the rain. Fishing was something I always made time for,
riding my bike or begging for a lift to the local creek or dam, with the
fishing came the hunt.
Challenges of the hunt to be precise, catching mice with
homemade traps, plinking birds with slingshots, making bows an arrows to test
my skills, I even snared rabbits on my way to school. When I was old enough to
use a firearm I was taught all about safety by my father, from then it became
about firearms. Chasing rabbits and foxes at first with air-rifle and .22lr,
tanning the skins.
Then progressing to goats and pigs and FINALLY deer, most
specifically SAMBAR.
When I start something I throw myself head first into the mix, so deer hunting
was no different. Hunting 2-3 days of the week was the norm, and I learnt so
much from being in the bush again. With teachers the likes of Ken Pearce, Mike
Harrison (mentor) an John Miller....... I was steered in the right direction,
these people I now call friends.
Lucky as it sounds I took my first deer, a
sambar on my second outing, no thanks to my mother Jennifer who has 100%
supported my love of deer hunting. It was with her backpacking knowledge and
map skills I found myself in the right spot at the right time. I continually
challenged myself, taking the 6 species of free range deer, carrying my son on
my back on many deer hunts, being maybe the first person in Australia to take a
sambar with a longbow, getting close enough for perfect photo's, videoing the
hunting of sambar and finally realising it is about the sharing of the hunt,
and this is where the guiding comes in.
There is nothing as satisfying as seeing a hunter take their first deer or
first sambar, capturing the photo's and video so they can relive the memories
forever. This is what I want for all aspiring sambar hunters, the joy of
experiencing the hunt, not the harvest.
So I invite you to look through my
website, comment or even book a hunt, I highly doubt you'll walk away
disappointed! |
