Busy weekend…..

Jen’s Day:

Jens Calf

As the sun set, Jen shot a young calf for the plate at 100m, her first hunting shot with HER new gun a Sako Finnlight in 300wsm with muzzle brake. Very comfortable to shoot and the little calf ran about 50m before expiring.

Solid type bullet just zipped though the chest when no bone hit.

Jens Stag

Followed quickly with a nice stag to talk about at 180m. He was hit behind the right shoulder and straight out again behind the left and ran about 100m before rolling downhill, no lungs so he just ran out of puff, though didn’t show any sign of a hit because no bone was hit but I could see blood down his chest as he ran. Went and got the car to drag him from the scrub for the photos :-)

Jens Fox

Finally a fox to brag about at 160m was a very good shot no steady rest and such a small target when looking at you and only a little bit of him from behind a tree, so my full congrats on that one!

Three shots three kills, she is over the moon and is so wrapped with her new gun and now hunting confident which accounts for a lot!

Chris’ Day:

Hind

I shot a hind with an old SMLE in 303British made in 1943 that saw action in WW2 still in original condition with open sights at 110m. Just a challenge I have wanted to accomplish to step back and do it like the oldies have.
She dropped on the spot but needed a finisher. Was very proud of myself!

Bull Stag

Then i shot the big bull stag with a current edition military sniper rifle in 338 lapua with all the trimmings at 350m. He must of weighed over 250 kilo’s hardly any teeth left! Hit him behind left shoulder and found bullet on offside shoulder, travelled about 30m before pirouette and faint out. Bullet weight approx 150gns left from 275gns. Very effective at even that short range, would work better past the 450m post IMO.

Guess Who Bagged A Great Trophy?

Jens-sambar.jpg

After 2 1/2 years, 2500 plus kilometers, 25 plus trips, over 2 1/2 stash camps, 250 plus hours, seeing over 250 plus sambar, plenty of 2 1/2 second opportunities, it came down to 2 1/2 mins, 250m and one great shot :-) was the old browning a bolt an 300 short mag that brought relief and joy in the end!

Can’t say it didn’t pay off, guess you put in the hard yards you get the rewards. Nothing better than seeing the buck fever and the smile of a true hunter after bagging their first sambar!
